Swimming and Diving Set for Tampa

Sharks push for their third SSC victory.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams are set to host the Tampa Spartans, Saturday, Dec. 3, after three weeks removed from competition, in hopes of claiming their third conference victory of the season. The No. 9 men come into this event 3-0 (2-0 SSC) and the No. 14 women 2-2 (2-0 SSC).

The Sharks clocked eight NCAA B-qualifying times during their previous meet against Indian River and Florida International at the NSU Aquatic Complex, Nov., 12. The men defeated Indian River, 135-127, and women fell to Indian River, 190-104, and Florida International, 203-85.

The men claimed four of the eight NCAA B-qualifying times with Oskar Nordstrand (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden), leading the way capturing two. Nordstrand’s first came in the 1650-yard freestyle and finishing with the 500-yard freestyle.

The women also captured four NCAA B-qualifying times starting with Lauren Chapple (Fr., London, England), who claimed two for the women in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Erin Black (Jr. Fort Myers, Fla.) received swimmer of the week honors after her performance in  the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.58).  She posted a NCAA B-qualifying time in the 500- freestyle (5:07.44), less than two seconds off of the NSU record (5:05.97) she set Oct. 15, 2011.

The Sharks will be looking at very strong completion as the Spartans women are No. 9 and the men No. 11 in the national rankings. The Spartan women come into this weekend at 3-0 (2-0 SSC) while the men stand at 2-1 (1-1 SSC).
